Henry Den Adel the fifteen-year-old son of Peter Den Adel, the janitor at the First National Bank, was instantly killed Wednesday morning, between the hours of 9 and 10 by a load of coal falling on him. The boy had been hired the first of the week by the the factory, and had been sent to Markham's bank for a load of coal. On his return and when near the farm of L. Maasdam his hat blew off and in jumping off the wagon after it he became entangled in the reins. The boy was unable to free himself immediately and the pulling on the lines caused the team to jump to one side, throwing the loaded wagon over a small culvert onto the body of the boy, the hub of the hind wheel striking him squarely in the breast. Death was instantaneous. He was found a few moments after the accident by Jake Maasdam, who pulled away the coal and lifted the wagon from the body. He then hastened to the coal bank and informed the men there, and word was at once sent to town. Mr. Maasdam is a large, stout man, but he said the sight was a fearful one. The body was badly crushed and torn. It was brought to the city about eleven o’clock, and taken to the home of the boy's parents. Squire Neyenesch held an inquest. The funeral was held yesterday morning from the Second Reformed Church.
The bereaved parents have the very deepest sympathy of the community in this terrible affliction.
