The Pella Chronicle; Pella, Iowa; Thursday, September 2, 1926

A good bit of excitement was caused in town Saturday evening, when two cars collided at the C. Huisman corner. It seems that Charley Holmes, who was driving west, attempted to turn there, crossing the road in front of a car coming from Des Moines, whose driver could not possibly avoid striking the Holmes car or the car closely following it containing Mr. and Mrs. Carl De Bruyn and two of their children, who are on a visit here from Hollandale. In the Holmes car, besides the driver, were Mrs. Holmes and the other three De Bruyn children. These were all thrown from the car and more or less injured. They were taken to the John Breen home, where a doctor dressed their cuts and bruises, the worst being a slight skull fracture sustained by one of the children. They were all able to return to the Holmes home at Galesburg Sunday morning. Mr. Reed, driver of the other car, who suffered a bad cut on his face, which bled profusely, was taken to the drug store and given first aid till the doctor could dress the cut, which required a number of stitches, after which he left for his home in Oskaloosa. Both cars were badly damaged and left here til Sunday, when the Oskaloosa car was hauled home in a truck. That no one was seriously hurt seems almost a wonder, the impact being so great. The Oskaloosa car was turned completely around in the ditch and headed back toward Des Moines.
