John W. Craddick was born in Paris, Bourbon County, Kentucky, October 24, 1812. When a boy, he moved with his parents to Indiana. Kezia Adeline Wood was born in Blunt County, Tennessee, September, 16, 1813. With her parents she moved to Indiana in 1826. John W. Craddick and Kezia A. Wood were married in Greenwood, Indiana on April 13, 1835. There was born to them nine children; W. W. Craddick, Mrs. Mary L. Moore, Mrs. Sarah Frances Scoles, Mrs. America Z. Tucker, Mrs. Mattie Young, Woodford C. Craddick ( now of Osborn, Kansas), Mrs. Esther F. Meyers, Sam M. Craddick of Orange, Cal., and Mrs. Jessie Fremont Bonebrake. Mrs. Scoles and Mrs. Young are both dead.

Grandfather Craddick moved from Indiana in 1849. When they came to Marion County, living first at Red Rock, then Pleasantville, and finally moved to Knoxville in 1860 and bought a farm of 28 acres near the village. The old people were very earnest members of the Presbyterian Church and Grandfather was one of the most exemplary men I ever knew. My earliest conceptions of God were that the was like Grandfather, only larger. They lived together more than 56 years and both died of la grippe, Grandmother first on March 26, 1891 aged 77 years, 6 months, 10 days; and Grandfather died Friday , December 15, 1893, aged 81 years, 1 month, and 21 days.
