Things were never too dull ar our house! We made our own entertainment, and with as many lively kids as there were, we had plenty! This is the way I remember some of the entertainment, when we were kids at home.
We really didn't have any way of going anywhere unless we walked. We attended Carmel Church almost every Sunday, this was three miles. We went to Cedar Valley School which wa a mile away. I remember we would turn the washing maching for our Mother until about five minutes until school time, athen we would run part of the way to try and get there on time.
There were several other kids in our neighborhood and they would all gather at our house and play games such as dare base, hide and seek, Dan Tucker, etc. When it got cold we had skating parties at the creek that was just a jump away from our house. Everyone brough a lantern and set them here and there on the ice for light.
When Easter came we always would hide a few eggs in the barn. We took them in a can down to the creek, built a fire and cooked them. On our way to the creek we would go past the hen house and seems some way an old hen would stick to our fingers. We covered her with clay, feathers and all, then roasted her on the bonfire. No one can remember is we ate her or not. HA!
