Comment about Claripa being Clarissa... In looking at Census records of the 1800's I noticed that sometimes a character which looks like an ornate letter "P" would appear in names. I finally realized that this was a "double s" which has a similar counterpart in the German language.

I had a last name which appeared to be "Rupell", but realized that it was actually, "Russell".
