Funeral services for Ralph D. Hoksbergen, 75, of Oskaloosa were held Friday, April 4, 2003 at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Marvin Leese officiating.

Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Leighton.

Ralph was born on October 14, 1927, near Leighton, the son of Ray and Johanna Van Haaften Hoksbergen.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952. On March 20, 1952, he was united in marriage to Lois Jean Van Kooten at the Leighton Christian Reformed Church. They farmed south of Lynnville for 28 years. In 1980 they moved to Oskaloosa, and Ralph continued to work as a district manager for the O's God Seed Company, and retired in 1991, but continued to work part time for Asgrow Seed.

He was a charter member of the Oskaloosa Toastmasters Club, initiated the Mahaska County Corn Growers Association, was a member of the Oskaloosa Community Evangelism Association, attended the Peoria Christian Reformed Church, and was a long time member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, where he served as an Elder, taught Sunday School, and Bible study. He and Lois served as a Faithline volunteers for the Back to God Hour.

He is survived by his wife; Lois Hoksbergen of Oskaloosa, one daughter; Beverly and her husband Stephen Vos of Jackson, Tenn.; two sons: Allen and his wife Becky Hoksbergen of Portales, N.M. and Keith and his wife Connie Hoksbergen of Pella; 16 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; an honorary granddaughter, 1 great grandson; 9 step great grandchildren; 1 brother: Harold and his wife Clazina Hoksbergen of Pella; 5 sisters: Lois and her husband John Klyn of New Sharon, Dorothy Rus of Pella, Alma and her husband Loren Witzenburg of Pella, Theresa and her husband Don Bruxvoort of Pleasant Hill and Janice Hoksbergen of Pella. Also surviving is his mother-in-law: Durky Van Kooten of Denver, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law: Jake Rus.

Memorials may be made to the Back to God Hour or to Gideon's International

Funeral arrangements were handled by Bates Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.
