Funeral services for Phyllis Hicklin, 71, of Oskaloosa, formerly of Pella, were held September 30 at the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Robert Dean officiated. Music was provided by Mrs. Cynthia Zimmerman, organist and Mr. Quinton Tschetter, soloist. Interment was at the Springfield Cemetery near Delta. Casket bearers were David Dumont, John Dumont, Frank Colbert, Michael Colbert, Trent Brackin and Trevor Brackin.

Phyllis Hicklin died Wednesday, September 25, 2002, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

She was born in Sigourney, the daughter of Fred and Gertrude Beckley Colbert on July 29, 1931. She graduated from the Sigourney High School with the class of 1949.

On April 16, 1952, she married Harry "Buck" Hicklin at Oskaloosa. Following their marriage, they moved to What Cheer; then to Pella; and finally settled in Oskaloosa. Phyllis worked as a waitress in various restaurants in the area, then quit to raise her family, and lastly went to work at the Pella Canning Company in Pella.

She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church where she was active in the Wednesday Ways program. She was also a past member of the Pony Express of Marion County of which she was a former chairman. She was a past member of the First Baptist Church in Pella, where she served as a shepherd for six families.

She is survived by her husband, Harry "Buck" Hicklin of Oskaloosa, one daughter: Julie Followill and her husband Damon of New Sharon; three grandchildren: Mason, Jessica, and Desiree Followill all of New Sharon; a sister: Verna Adams of Sigourney; two sisters-in-law: Joan Colbert of Sigourney, and Clarice Colbert of Haysville; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son: Scott Hicklin; and three brothers: Dale, Jim, and Don Colbert.

Arrangements were handled by Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa.

Memorials may be made to Camp Sunnyside.
