BANKES, WALLACE UTTERBACK

Samuel E. Bankes, 55, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday night, July 9, 2005, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

He was born December 10, 1949, the son of Maynard Eari and Violet Lorraine Wallace Bankes. On June 9, 1972, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Utterback at Lancaster, Missouri.

He drove a dump truck for rock quarries for many years, lastly with Martin Marietta. The past three years, he worked as a maintenance man for Unicco at the Cargil plant at Eddyville. He was a social member of the Oskaloosa V.F.W. and enjoyed singing and writing songs and playing his 12 string guitar and 'jamming with the River Rats'. He played mostly for benefits in the area. He also enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing.

His family includes his wife, Bonnie Bankes of Oskaloosa; 2 daughters and their husbands: Carrie and Kevin Vogt and Ten and Richard Wiseman, all of Ottumwa; a son: Samuel Bankes, Jr. of Oskaloosa; 8 grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Mark and Fran Bankes of Oskaloosa; and 3 sisters and their husbands: Helen and David Pratt of Colfax, Pat and Larry Cashatt of Runnells, and Susan and Chet Wallis of Colfax.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Norma Miller.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with the Reverend Kenneth D- Wallace officiating.

Burial was held at in the Vandalia Cemetery near Runnells.
