Obituary pasted in Geography Book of Calvin TANDY.

Obituary: Rev. J. H. BUSER was born December 5, 1826, in Frederick County, Maryland, and departed this life December 18, 1893, at Coneville, Muscatine County, Iowa, aged 67 years and 13 days. The deceased was united in marriage with Margaret D. LENNOX, September 22, 1851. To this couple was given ten children, seven of whom survive him. Mrs. BUSER departed this life some nine years ago. Rev. BUSER was licensed to preach the gospel by Miami Classic at a meeting held in Dayton, Ohio, 1850, and was ordained in the Swander's Crossing Church, Shelby County, Ohio, in 1852. This is the simple story as it comes to us from the pen of Rev. FOUSE. But there is much in his life that cannot be told here. The earlier years of his labors was spent in Ohio. Late in the fifties or early sixties he removed to Iowa and there began his real missionary life.

He first settled at Oskaloosa, Iowa, and preached in that city and also at Union, what is now Leighton congregation; at Leighton, there is a flourishing congregation the result of his early labors. While laboring at Oskaloosa, he began preaching at Clifton in Louisa County. Later on he removed from Oskaloosa to Clifton, having purchased a farm near the latter place, and while doing some farming he also attended to his ministerial labors. He organized a flourishing congregation at Clifton and in 1876 he built a church at Clifton. While preaching at Clifton, he began looking about for new work beyond the Iowa river. For years he engaged in this work and from these efforts came to Lone Tree and Coneville congregations which now constitutes a separate charge, where he labored for twenty-eight years with general acceptance and success. Seven years ago he accepted the call to a charge near Tiffin, Ohio. Here he labored for two years but he declared that he was homesick for the west, where the greater part of his ministerial life was spent, and he accepted a call to Leighton charge in Mahaska County, Iowa, where he labored until last spring, when, because of failing health, he resigned. Since then he has lived with his children near Coneville, Iowa, where on the 18th of December, the messenger death summoned him. Rev. BUSER was a man of ready speech, always an entertaining talker, ever ready to encourage the believer and always pointing sinners to Christ as their only Savior. He did much hard and good work for the church. He fought a good fight, he has gained the victory.
