Lytle, Mildred Hull – 1922-2012

Mildred Hull Lytle, 89, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
She was born August 8, 1922 to Afton M. and Lena G. Hull of Taintor, Iowa. She graduated from the New Sharon High School in 1938, and married John M. Lytle of Oskaloosa on September 14, 1940. They had two sons, Steven Hull Lytle, an attorney in Des Moines, and Michael Linn Lytle, who died in Viet Nam in 1969.
Mildred was a member of First Christian Church in Oskaloosa and served as choir director for 33 years, and sang professionally at countless weddings, funerals, and public events in her younger years. She was a member of P.E.O., Chapter X, 50-year member of Lydia Circle F.C.C., and member of both the DAR and DAC. Following the death of her husband John in 1980, she worked for Mahaska State Bank, Oskaloosa, until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Michael, and by her siblings Junior G. Hull, Maurice A. Hull, Irma Nicholson, Harriet LaRue, and Helen Jansen. Mildred is survived by her friend and companion Bud Garner, Oskaloosa; her son Steven and wife Marybeth of Urbandale; grandson Michael and wife Susan of Silverthorne, Colorado; grandson Andrew of Southampton, England; granddaughter Allison of Urbandale; and great granddaughters Madison and Sophia Lytle of Silverthorne, Colorado.
Services will be held Monday, March 26, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. in the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. Burial will be in the Madison Township Cemetery, northwest of Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin on Sunday at the Bates Funeral Chapel after 12 noon, and the family will be present Monday at the First Christian Church from 12:30 p.m. until service time at 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church or the Mahaska Hospice Serenity House.
The family extends their deepest appreciation to Mildred's caregivers at Maple Ridge and the Serenity House for their compassionate and loving assistance during Mildred's final years and days. She died at peace with herself and with the knowledge of her faith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Christian Church or Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
