Helen Lockard, 92, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, July 4, at Pleasant Park Estates in Oskaloosa. Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. Burial: Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa. Visiting hours are open today with an Order of Eastern Star service at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral chapel; the family will greet friends after the O.E.S. service. Memorials: Lacey United Methodist Church.
Helen Lockard was born Nov. 5, 1907, in Adams Township, Mahaska County, to Charles Wesley and Frances N. Kelley Anderson. She graduated from Lacey High School. On Aug. 28, 1925, she married Lewis P. Lockard in Omaha, Neb. He died Jan. 30, 1981. She was a cook in the Oskaloosa School System for many years, and later was a cook at Tower Park Nursing Home and the old Mahaska Manor Nursing Home until retiring in 1980. She also helped her son, Kenneth, mow several cemeteries in the area for many years. She was a member of Lacey United Methodist Church, and was a 50-plus year member and past worthy matron of Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, John Yeoman in Arizona; a sister, Mary Morrison of Chicago, Ill.; two nieces, Mary Jo Meyers and Sandra Cowley; a sister-in-law, Mattie Lockard of Oskaloosa; and caregivers Patricia Chamra and Larry and Dixie Wheeler.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Frances Yeoman; a son, Kenneth Lockard; two brothers: Estil and Henry Anderson; and a sister, Leah Wilson. (The Oskaloosa Herald; date unknown)
