Nina Brown, 88, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, Jan. 4, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Lanny Tuttle officiating. Burial: Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visiting hours begin 4 p.m. today at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with family present 6:30 - 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials: Mahaska Hospice or Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa.
Nina was born Nov. 25, 1913, in Lovilia to Frank and Nora Findley Wilson. She spent much of her childhood in Osborne County, Kansas, and graduated from Osborne High School in 1931. On Nov. 30, 1932, she married Charles G. Brown in Osborne. They moved to Iowa in 1940 and lived in Vinton, Anamosa and Cedar Rapids before moving to Oskaloosa in 1950. She was always active in the community, including her involvement with Central United Methodist Church, P.E.O. Chapter IO, Oskaloosa Women's Club, Friendship Circle of Kings Daughters, United Methodist Women, Mahaska County Historical Society, Mahaska Hospital Auxiliary, Mahaska Hospice Auxiliary, Lady Pythians Lodge and Kiwanis Ladies. She enjoyed handiwork, gardening, reading and spending time with family.
She is survived by her husband, Charles G. Brown of Oskaloosa; two sons and daughters-in-law; Charles Bruce and Doris Anne Brown of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Steven R. and Cyndi Brown of Oskaloosa; a daughter and son-in-law: Linda Ann and Willis Bywater of Iowa City; eight grandchildren: David and Douglas Bywater, Matthew, Jeffrey, Becky and Jennifer Brown, Susan Noble and Ann Parker; five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Ralph, Henry, James, Clarence and Roy Wilson; and two sisters: Ione Toye and Hazel Brown. (The Oskaloosa Herald, no date)
