PACKWOOD - John T. Middlekoop, 81, of Packwood, died at 11:40 p.m. Monday at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday Raymond Funeral Home. Burial will be in Packwood Cemetery. The family will received friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Middlekoop was born Nov. 1, 1905 in Mahaska County, the son of Garrett and Elizabeth DeKook Middlekoop. He married Anna Burbank Feb. 24, 1927 in Oskaloosa. He was reared in the Oskaloosa community, moving in Packwood in 1939. A farmer, he founded Middlekoop Seed Corn Company in 1948, retiring in 1971. His seed corn took many top honors at the state fair over the years.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, John Jr. of Batavia, Jack of Packwood; five grandchildren; a brother, Martin of Melbourne; two sisters, Minnie Myers and Nellie Scheckell, both of Nevada.

He was a member of the Packwood Lions Club.
