Funeral services for Virginia Simons, 75, of Oskaloosa were held October 5 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Gary Smith officiated. Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery in Leighton.

Virginia M. Simons died Tuesday, October 1, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa.

She was born June 13, 1927 in Mahaska County, near Leighton, the daughter of Henry and Bertha Roorda Brummel. She attended the old Greeley Country School.

On May 1, 1946, she was united in marriage to Herman M. Simons. Early in her married life, she worked at Lynn's Poultry in Oskaloosa, and then later for Dr. Zimmerman, then as a displayer for home interiors, and finally for the old Sniders ladies store. She was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene, and the Ladies Bible Study. She enjoyed flower arranging, home decorating, and crafts.

She is survived by her husband, Herman Simons of Oskaloosa; a son and his wife: Ronald and Leslie Simons of Athens, Georgia; a daughter and her husband: Verjean and Kenneth Rexroth of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three sisters: Esther (& Orville) Bensink of Pella, Ann Groenendyk, and Mildred (&Ray) DeZwarte, all of Oskaloosa; two brothers: Howard (&Nancy) Brummel of Monroe and James (&Marilyn) Brummel of Oskaloosa; two brothers-in-law: Edward Goemaat and Henry Lanser, both of Oskaloosa; a sister-in-law: Edith Brummel of Knoxville; three step-sisters: Nettie (& Lloyd) Van Zante of Pella, Joann (&Dale) Van Ommen of Oskaloosa, and Norma Simons of Leighton; and a step-brother: Paul (& Kathryn) Simons, Jr. of Pella.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters: Ada Olson, Clara Lanser, Bernice Goemaat, and Edna Klein; a brother: Virgil Brummel; two brothers-in-law: Ben Groenendyk and Lester Klein; and a step-brother: Leonard Simons.

Arrangements were handled by Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Alzheimers Disease and Related Disorders Association.
