Sarah E. Ruby was born May 6, 1843, and died December 31, 1902, at her home in Adams township after about a year's illness of cancer of the liver. She was united in marriage with Steven Criss, March 17, 1861. To this union four children were born, all of whom are living and were present during the sickness and death of their mother. She leaves her faithful husband, one son, three daughters, ten grandchildren, her aged father, three brothers and three sisters and numerous friends to mourn and miss her. She was converted in the winter of 1865 and united with the Methodist church at Centenary and remained a faithful and consistent member during her whole life and died in faith and hope. Hers was a fatal malady with no hopes of a cure from the first. But all that love could suggest or science accomplish was done for her. She was a great sufferer and yet she never complained. Her favorite passage of scripture was, "Be ye ready. Let your lamp be trimmed and burning." And as we watched by the bedside that last night and saw that precious mother, "so patient and peaceful" pass out of this world into the great world beyond we felt that she was indeed ready, that her lamps were trimmed and burning. A large concourse of friends and neighbors followed the remains to the Wymore church where Rev. DeYoe spoke words of comfort to the sorrowing friends. After the services she was laid to rest in the Wymore cemetery.
Then prepare to meet her
When it comes our turn to go;
And live with her in that eternal city,
Where sorrows are never known.
