FREMONT - Paul R. Perkins, 76, of Fremont, died Monday, January 28, 1991 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center. He was born August 17, 1914 near Oskaloosa, the son of Clarence and Maude Ahrens Perkins. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1932.
He married Martha Higgins July 6, 1940 in Kirksville, Mo. He farmed and had worked at the Cedar elevator and was a substitute mail carrier in Fremont for several years.
He had participated in the C.O.M.S. study at the University Hospital and Clinics and enjoyed time with his horses. He was a member of the Fremont Methodist Church, the Council Lodge #644 of A.F. & A.M. of Oskaloosa, charter member of the Mahaska County Sheriff's Posse, and a former member of the Fremont Saddle Club.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Allan and wife, Pamela of rural Hedrick; three grandchildren; and three sisters, Irene Perkins of Des Moines; Dorothy VanZee of Gibson; and Marilyn Murphy of Runnells.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth; and sister, Phyllis who died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Fremont Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Pacifico Camarin officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery near Martinsburg.
Visitation is open. Memorials may be made to his church or to the Fremont Rescue Unit. Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. (The Oskaloosa Herald, n.d.)
