OBITUARY of Fred Brown, son of Reed and Dora Brown. "The Lord hath given and the Lord hath taken away." We are again reminded of the uncertainty of this life and the waste of sickness and disease to which we are each subject, in the death of our little friend and loving schoolmate, Fredide Brown, who, after having suffered for nearly two weeks with scarlet fever, the spirit took its flight to its happy home above. He was born in Mahaska County, Iowa, August 4, 1885 and died Saturday, Jan. 15, 1892, aged 6 years, 6 months, and 12 days. Funeral services were held at the house on the following day, conducted by Rev. Dalbey, and the remains were interred in the Wymore cemetery. The death of this little one was sudden and was a shock unto those with whom he was well known, and he will be missed much by his teacher and playmates. There will be one vacant seat in our school room and one empty chair at home which shall never be filled by the bright and loving little form. But while he will be greatly missed, we know he has gone to bloom a brighter and fairer [illegible], never to suffer, but to live without pain forevermore. The family have the sympathy of friends in their sad bereavement. But to the comfort of all hearts we know he is safe in the arms of Jesus and will never more see the suffering, temptations and sorrows that are strewn along the pathway of men.
We'll miss with us the little flower
That bloomed so bright and fair;
The child-like questions, pretty smiles,
This lonesome, empty chair.Well may we know our loving one
Was transplanted well with care,
By Him who in the Heavens reign,
To bloom forever there.Oh! may we live to meet thee,
Where parting ne'eer shall be,
Forever with the good to dwell
In that blest eternity.And when it comes our turn to die,
And our spirits light shall take
We know we'll find our little Fred
Inside the Heavenly gate.~A. Schoolmate.
