FORMER DRUGGIST DIES FRIDAY

G.E. Stephenson, 89, died at the Jordan nursing home Friday, March 15 about 7 AM. He had made his home there for four years.

He was the son of A.H. And Betsy Jane Henderson Stephenson and was born October 8, 1873 at Webster. He attended the state University of Iowa, Iowa city, for two years and became a registered pharmacist in 1893.

In 1895 he was married to Sarah L. Williams and to them a daughter was born who died in infancy. Mrs. Stephenson died quite unexpectedly in 1933.

He was married to Bert Riggs Kussart in 1935 and she died March 21, 1960.

Mr. Stevenson was a member of the Christian church, and elder and also served as treasurer. He was a 50 year Mason and a 50 year O.E.S.

He was in the drug business here 47 years selling to Harry Heitink in 1940. He served seven years on the town Council, was 27 years city treasurer, as well as being Township clerk and treasurer of the Eddyville public school. For 20 years he was president of the Eddyville businessman's Association and was the first secretary-treasurer of the Eddyville Cooperative burial Association and held this office 21 years.

The body was taken to Eddyville Cooperative funeral home. Services were held from the local Christian church Monday at 2 PM with the pastor, Rev. David Stout, officiating. Burial was made in Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Sigourney.
