Iola May Thayer, 76, of Oskaloosa, died Sept. 25, 1997 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
She was born May 19, 1921, in Tracy to John and Edith Barnes Binns. She was a 1939 graduate of Tracy High School. She married William Thayer on Sept. 30, 1946, in Oskaloosa; he died in 1983.
She was a homemaker and longtime member of Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa, Faith Circle, United Methodist Women, Credo and Coterie Circle, D.A.R. and Kings Daughters. She had been an active den mother in Boy Scouts, a Girl Scout leader and was in P.T.O.
She is survived by two sons, Jon and James; three daughters, Trudy Craig, Cathy Westercamp and Jill Hale; 12 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Beulah Sherman and Ilaruth Burke.
She was preceded in death by her parents; twin infant sons, Timothy and Thomas; and a sister, Judith Mabee.
The service was held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa, the Revs. Larry Tuttle and Michael Hovda officiating. Burial was in, the Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa.
