FREMONT - Homer Mike Hynick, 82, of Oskaloosa and formerly of rural Fremont, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, at his home. His funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Fremont United Methodist Church, the Rev. Todd Holman of Fremont United Methodist Church and Pastor Julie Wehner of West Des Moines United Methodist Church officiating. Burial: Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Visiting hours begin 10 a.m. Thursday at Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont, with family present 6-8 p.m. Thursday Memorials: Fremont United Methodist Church of Mahaska Hospice.
Homer Mike Hynick was born Sept. 23, 1919 in Eddyville, Iowa to Andy Hynick and Mary Gutch Hynick. He attended the Wilson Country School and was educated in Eddyville. He was united in marriage to Lillian Lappin on July 15, 1942 in Macon, Missouri. In his early years he farmed near Eddyville, and in 1951 he moved to a farm south of Fremont where he farmed for 38 years. Homer also worked in sales for Courtney Shephard Implement for 17 years and for Roland Brothers, Wymore and Bean, and Albert Caves Garage as a mechanic. He raced go-carts, pulled in tractor pulls, enjoyed playing pool, traveling and driving through the countryside. He was known as a perfectionist. He was member of the Fremont United Methodist Church, and a past member of Fremont Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife Lillian, three daughters, Nancy Stoos of Muscatine, Iowa, Barbara Krusemark of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Diana Bokhoven of New Sharon, Iowa; one son, Neil Hynick of Hatley, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and one half-brother, Paul Hynick of Eddyville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Willie; two sisters, Irene Antolik and Betty Baker, and one great-grandson, Joseph Butler.
