Josephine Hardeman (1924-2000)

Josephine Hardeman, the daughter of George and Bertha Hollander DeGroot, was born Sunday, December 21, 1924 at Oskaloosa. At an early age, she made her profession of faith at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. On March 4, 1948, she was married to Dick Hardeman, at the home of her parents, near Rose Hill. Together, they farmed near Rose Hill all of their married lives. On January 30, 1991, Dick died. In September of 1999, Josephine moved to Oskaloosa. Since her marriage, she has been a member of the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, and it's Diamond Club, and Love Circle, taught Sunday school and Bible school, worked as a volunteer at the Snack Bar at the Mahaska County Hospital, and enjoyed traveling.
On Monday, August 14, 2000, Josephine died at her home in Oskaloosa at the age of 75 years, 7 months, and 24 days.
She is survived by five daughters and their husbands: Judi (& Dean) Braaksma; Mary (& Kent) Ostrem; Carole (& Jim) Harvey; Kathy (& Lowell) Engelhoven, all of Oskaloosa; Kris Hardeman and her husband John Korte of Westerly, Rhode Island; a son and his wife: Rick (& Traci) Hardeman of New London, Iowa; 13 grandchildren: 2 great grandchildren; a sister and her husband: Beulah (& Gary) DeGraaf of Pella; 4 brothers and their wife: John (& Dorothy) DeGroot and Kenneth (& Darlene) DeGroot, all of Rose Hill; Lee (& Carolyn) DeGroot and Howard (& Donna) DeGroot, all of Oskaloosa; 2 sisters in law: Martena DeGroot of Pella and Marie Hardeman of Rose Hill, and many nieces & nephews.
Besides her husband, Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, and 3 brothers: Ray, Clarence, and Gary DeGroot.
