Dorothy L. Holub, 85, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, Dec. 23, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Her funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Lanny Tuttle officiating. Burial: Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa. Visiting hours begin 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel with family present 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established in her name; memorials may be left at the funeral chapel.
Dorothy L. Holub was born June 2, 1916, in Thornburg, to Joseph and Rachel McGimpsey Bone. She graduated from Montezuma High School in 1934. On May 18, 1936, she married Albert Holub in Missouri. He died Nov. 13, 1977. She was active in the family business, Holub Inc. in Oskaloosa, and its greenhouses, retail operation and Catfish Charlie catfish bait business throughout its 76 years. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, King's Daughters and the Oskaloosa Women's Club.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law: Shirley Holub-Masterson of Cedar, and Alberta and Kenneth Den Hartog of Oskaloosa; three sons and daughters-in-laws: Albert J. "Buddy" and Eileen Holub of Oskaloosa, Jerry and Cindy Holub of Johnston and Michael and Diane Holub of Ames; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law: Charles and Eleanor Bone of Umatilla, Fla,; a brother-in-law, John Holub of Oskaloosa; and a sister-in-law, Josephine Bone of Oskaloosa.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Leroy W. and William H.H. "Bill" Bone; and four sisters: Zelma and Velma Bone in infancy, and Irene Dalbey and Eva Mae Johnson.
