Max C. Browneller, 82, of Oskaloosa, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2001 at Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa.

Max Browneller was born September 4, 1918 in Mahaska County to Wilbur E. & Jennie L. Reed Browneller. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1936. He married Jean Nicholson on September 18, 1940 in Oskaloosa. They farmed the family farm in the Spring Valley community in Monroe Township for 42 years, before moving to Oskaloosa in 1980.

Max was a Trustee of the Mahaska County Historical Society for 14 years. He showed Suffolk Sheep at the Iowa State Fair for 30 years, and was a past member and president of the Iowa State Fair Board. Max served as president of the Southern Iowa Fair for 25 Years. He volunteered as a 4-H Club leader, was on the 4-H council and was the 1981 recipient of the State 4-H Alumni Award. He helped organize the Mahaska County Sheep Breeders Assoc. & Sale; and was a member of the Iowa Sheep Association, and the National Wool Growers, where he also served on the board.

He served as secretary for Farm Bureau, and secretary for Farm Service. He was instrumental in organizing the Rural Youth & The Young Married in Mahaska County, (this was a club that organized entertainment for the youth of the county).

Max's wife, Jean Browneller, of Oskaloosa honors his memory.

Max' parents preceded him in death.

Services held at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa on Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at One Thirty O'clock, with Rev. Lanny Tuttle officiating. Interment: Forest Cemetery.
