John W. Morgan

MORGAN, HOOK, HARTMAN, HAYES, CROUTHAMEL

John W. MORGAN, 504 south Market street, former railway employe and active in Masonry for more than 50 years, died at his home at 8:30 o'clock Tuesday night, February 20, 1940, after a day's illness at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 29 days. Mr. Morgan was born in Tuscarora, Pa., and came to Iowa at an early age. For a number of years he worked for the railroad out of Mason City. He came to Oskaloosa about 20 years ago and has resided here since. Mr. MORGAN was prominent in Masonic circles and served local orders as tyler for a dozen years. Following the death of his wife, he married Mrs. Margaret ACTON HOOK of Oskaloosa on December 19, 1920. Surviving are his widow; one son, Shadrack MORGAN of Mason City; one daughter, Mrs. Margaret HARTMAN of Mason City; one step son, J. Frank HOOK of Beacon; two daughters, Mrs. May HAYES of Oskaloosa and Mrs. Mollie CROUTHAMEL of Boone; one brother, Dave MORGAN of ROse Hill, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Wilcox-Garland chapel at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Burial at Mason City.
