CAROL MESSER --- Oskaloosa

Carol Illa Messer, 78 of Oskaloosa died of complications of diabetes Saturday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Services were held Wednesday at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with burial in Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.

Mrs. Messer was born in Hedrick and lived in New Sharon many years before moving to Oskaloosa six years ago. She was a homemaker and had been a rural school teacher and worked at Woodward State Hospital School before retiring. She was a member of the New Sharon Presbyterian Church and had been a 4-H leader and active with Sweet Adelines of Cedar Rapids.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen McLaughlin of Williams Bay, Wis., and Lorraine Messer of Oskaloosa; two sons, Lawrence of Winterset and Mark of Mason City; a sister, Eathol Arlene Marska of Peoria Ariz.; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Carol Illa Messer Memorial Fund.
