Mr. Ivan D. Daugherty, Galesburg Chapel, 91, 533 W. Matthews Court, Oneida, IL, died at 6:59 AM Tuesday, May 15, 2007 in Seminary Manor, Galesburg, IL.
He was born March 17, 1916 in Floris, IA, the son of Claude and Myrtle Christy Daugherty. He married Sadie Margaret Winner on September 5, 1943 in Austin, TX. She preceded him in death on December 13, 1986.
He is survived by a daughter, Sue (and Gary) Johnson, Altona, IL, a brother, Victor (and Geneva) Daugherty, Hedrick, IA, and 2 sisters, Bonnie Bucklew and Icel (and Cleo) Molyneux, both of Oskaloosa, IA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roscoe Daugherty.
He farmed in Iowa for 40 years, retiring in 1983. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Oneida to be near their daughter. He was a member of First Christian Church in Oskaloosa and Galesburg. He was also a member of the Oneida Senior Citizen’s.
He served as a Master Sergeant with the Engineer Machine Training Detachment during WWII. He was in the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe Campaigns. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, and the Silver Battle Star.
Funeral will be 1:30 PM Friday, May 18, 2007 in Bates Funeral Chapel, Oskaloosa. The Rev. Tom Burkhardt will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 PM Thursday, May 17, 2007 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
