ROBBINS - Died, at his home near Tioga, May 10, 1897, from heart failure, HOCKETT ROBBINS, aged 75 years and 8 months.
He had been ailing some months but had been out walking around a few minutes before he died. Hockett Robbins was born in Randolph County, North Carolina, September 15, 1821. He moved first to Indiana and came to Iowa in 1854, locating on the farm where he lived until the day of his death. He married Mahala Keller and to them were born four boys and three girls, who were all present at the funeral. He joined the M.E. Church in 1858 and in 1865 united with the Baptist church, and during all the years until death called him, lived a consistent Christian life. In politics he was a true and staunch republican and never wavered in the faith, being one of the leaders in the vicinity where he lived. He was a warm personal friend of THE HERALD, whose weekly visits for many years past have found their way to his home. He was a faithful and loving husband, a kind and indulgent father, an accommodating neighbor, a good citizen, one who benefited the world in which he lived. We have known him for the past twenty years as one of the most industrious and well-to-do farmers of White Oak township. Some years ago his wife passed over to the other shore, leaving him with seven children. Later he married Mrs. Matilda Hinkle, who with the children, all grown, survive him. To them goes out the entire sympathy of all in this sad hour of their bereavement. The funeral was held from the home Tuesday afternoon, May 11, Rev. G.M. Vallandingham officiating. The remains were interred in the Taylor cemetery beside his first companion.
