DIED

In the city of Denver, Friday, October 11, 1889, 2 o’clock P.M., of typhoid fever, Mr. Geo. W. Baitsell, formerly of Cedar Twp., this county. Mr. Baitsell was unmarried, 48 years of age, and had been nine years in Colorado, near St. Elmo, engaged in mining. In this industry he had extensive interests when he died. His object in leaving Iowa was to have better health with which he was favored until about six weeks ago when he went to Denver and was taken with slow typhoid fever from which he could not recover, though attended by competent medical aid and the best of care.

Mrs. B. M. Eastburn left for Denver Tuesday, October 8th, and arrived before his death. Mr. John Baitsell, his brother, from Wright, followed on Wednesday and was at his bedside in death’s hour, he still remaining there to settle up business matters. Mrs. Jane Baitsell, the aged mother, and daughter Nettie had been for two months past visiting their daughter, Mrs. Emma Merritt, of Patterson, New York, and hearing of George’s illness left at once for Denver but arrived a few hours after his death. They with Mrs. Eastburn made the long sad journey homeward with the remains, arriving her Tuesday morning last. They went to Fremont, where they were met by many mourning friends. The funeral occurred from the Baptist church in the afternoon. The family have the deepest sympathy of all their many friends in this affliction.

Note from contributor: His mother was Jane Watkins Baitsell. Sister Nettie was Nettie Baitsell Maddox
