Phillip Roquette was born in Emstein, Bavaria, Germany, Aug. 8, 1835 and died at the home of Lewis Roquette, his brother in Fremont, Iowa, May 16, 1922, aged 86 years, 9 months and 8 days.
Mr. Roquette came to the United States in 1851 and settled in one of the eastern States, later coming to Iowa (1856). He united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Mader in 1863. Four children, Jacob, Frank, Fred and George were born of their union. Al four of them are living in Dickson, N.D.
Mr. Roquette was confirmed as a member of the German Lutheran church according to the practice of that organization when a child.
He leaves two brothers, Charles and Lewis, Frank having preceded him in death. There are several grandchildren and a few great grandchildren.
Mr. Roquette was a quiet, unassuming citizen, found on the right side of any question relating to the well being of the town and community and, while of a retiring disposition and not given to mingling with men, he will be missed.
Funeral from the home of Lewis Roquette, Wednesday, May 17, at two p.m., W.E. Tinney, pastor of the Methodist church of Fremont in charge. Interment in Cedar township cemetery.
