Interment: Memorial Lawn Cemetery
Samuel Ray Sauer 98, of Fremont died Monday, March 10, 2003 at Ridgewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ottumwa, Iowa due to complications following a broken hip. Mr. Sauer was born February 23rd, 1905 near Farson, Iowa the son of George and Theresa Meier Sauer. Samuel was united in marriage to Irene Robbins June 2nd, 1926 in Martinsburg, Iowa. He began farming west of Hedrick in 1930 until 1965 when he sold his farm and moved to Fremont in 1966. Mr. Sauer was a member of the Fremont Baptist Church and a former member of the Hedrick Baptist Church. Samuel is survived by his brothers; Howard M. Sauer of Brookings, South Dakota and Kenneth Sauer of Grass Valley, California and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, November 30th, 2001, his parents, five brothers; Harry, Earl, Herald, Lloyd, and Lyman Sauer and five sisters; Evalena Denny, Blanche Crittenden, Alice Hooks, Olie Stansberry Decker, and Genevieve Hooks. He attended Farson and Martinsburg Schools graduating from Martinsburg High School in 1924. He attended Cedar Falls Teachers College and taught school in Farson, Iowa. Funeral services for Mr. Sauer will be held Wednesday, March 12th, 2003 at 1:30 P.M. at the Fremont Baptist Church with Rev. Marion McCoy officiating. There will be no visitation. Pallbearers will be;Arlo Sauer, John White, Eugene Meier, Michael Crosby, Clair Albertson, and Harold Roquet. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Warren Jones and Dr. Everett Jones. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa, Iowa. Memorials may be made in his name to the Fremont Baptist Church and left at the church or the Fremont Funeral Chapel
