OTTUMWA — Margarette Jayne Johnson, 92, of 1212 Hamilton St., died June 25, 2009, at home.She was born Sept. 4, 1916, in OSKALOOSA, Iowa, to Clyde Earl and Clara Emma Smith Johnson.She married Arthur M. Johnson of Ottumwa Nov. 16, 1940, in South Bend, Ind. He preceded her in death March 12, 1997.Jayne attended Oskaloosa High School, serving as the president of her senior class. After graduation, she worked as a secretary in the Iowa Legislature. After her marriage, she moved to Ottumwa and later worked at Lougheed Jewelry Store. She and Art moved to Downers Grove, Ill., in 1966 and returned to Ottumwa in 1978 after Art's retirement. She was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church and served as the president of the Women's Fellowship for several years. She was also a member of BPO Elks Lodge #347 Auxiliary, Izaak Walton League and Wapello Co. Historical Society. She was a member of the American Women's Bowling Association and was selected as a delegate to the Older Iowans Legislature.Surviving are two daughters, Bette Williams of Ottumwa and Phyllis (David) Runnells of Ottumwa; five grandchildren, Daniel and Jeffrey Williams, Sarah Darrow, Cheri Ball and Robert Runnells; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Cleo Straile; two brothers, Claude and Leroy Johnson; a son-in-law, Tom Williams; and a grandson, Michael Williams. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Gray officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the family present from 3-5 p.m.
