Death of Former Oskaloosa Editor
Postmaster Henry S. Rosecrans receive a dispatch Tuesday announcing the death at Moscow, Idaho, of his brother-in-law, Richard Burke, from mountain fever. Mr. Burke was for a number of years a resident of Oskaloosa and was the editor of the Times, coming here from What Cheer, where he had conducted the Reporter. He was the brother of John Burke, treasurer of the U. S. and married a sister of Mr. Rosecrans. After leaving Oskaloosa he resided at Grand Forks, N. Dak., and later removed to Moscow. For a number of years he was in the employ of the International Harvester Co., as auditor, but for the past two years had represented the government, being one of the appraisers of western lands. He has three sons in the U. S. Army, one of them being stationed at Camp Dodge, and another is in France.
His death was apparently sudden, as Mr. Rosercrans had not known of his illness, the family having just received a letter from a niece who had just arrived at the Burke home on a visit and who resides in Sigourney. Nothing was said in her letter of her uncle's sickness.
