OSKALOOSA - Hattie Van Hal Schimmel, 94, of Oskaloosa, a former resident of rural Sully, died Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella.

The Rev. J. Mark Beach, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Tracy.

Friends may call at Pella Garden Chapel Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Memorials to the Christian Opportunity Center in Pella will be accepted.

Survivors are a son, William, of Pella; a daughter, Bertha Vick of Pella; seven grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dick, Sept. 14, 1986, three sons, Dirk C., Dick H. and Henry D., two daughters, Leona and Marie, five brothers, Gerrit, Dick, John, William and Everett, and two sisters, Hattie Van Hal, Marie Van Hal and Cora Van Maanen.

Mrs. Schimmel was a member of First Christian reformed Church in Pella.

The daughter of William and Bertha Van Elst Van Hal, she was born Dec. 31, 1898 in The Netherlands and came to the Sully with her family at the age of seven and was educated in Sully schools.

She was married to Dick Schimmel march 31, 1917 in Tracy and the couple farmed in the Tracy area for 29 years and for eight years in the Leighton area. After their retirement, they made their home for 40 years in Pella.

Mrs. Schimmel moved to Pleasant Park Manor in Oskaloosa two years ago. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1992.
