Obituary Oskaloosa Weekly Herald newspaper 3/2/1893
SMITH-Died Feb. 15, 1893, at her home in Indianapolis, Mrs. RACHEL ANN SMITH, aged 62 years and 4 months.
Mrs. Smith was born in Rust* County, Ind., Oct. 15, 1831. She was married to George Smith Oct. 7, 1847. Eleven children blessed this union, nine of whom surive her, and all were present at the funeral except three. The funeral service was held at the family residence at 4 p.m., Feb. 16, conducted by Rev. Vallandinghan, of Rose Hill, by request of the deceased. Interment occurred at White Oak the following day. The family were formerly residents of White Oak, having moved to their present home about 10 years since. Deceased has been in a dangerous condition from heart trouble and other complications for many months and has been in failing health since 1891. A severe attack of paralysis hastened the closing scene. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Christian Church at this place and sustained an excellent Christian character. As wife and mother, neighbor and friend she filled all the relationships of life with credit and honor, and expressed herself as being ready to meet the last great change whenever the Master should call. Thus another voice is hushed on earth to take up the glad, new song of the redeemed in Heaven.

Mark, the perfect, and the upright,

For their and is always peace.
