James Robinson Woods "J R Woods" died 25 Feb 1911 in Rose Hill, Mahaska County. He is buried at White Oak Grove Cemetery near Oskaloosa. He was a farmer, a man dedicated to his family. He was born 2 Apr 1826 in Butler County Ohio to parents Dr. Samuel Woods (1796-1856) and Susannah Abigail Glines (1807-1850).

Of the 9 documented births of the Woods-Glines marriage, J R was the oldest to live to adulthood. He was married to Elizabeth Jane Morris in Ohio during 1851. They were in Jennings County Indiana for the 1860 census then Ripley County Indiana for the 1870 census. By the 1880 census, they were settled in White Oak, Mahaska County, where he lived out the remainder of his days.

Children of the marriage were all born prior to the family arriving in Mahaska County. Blanche Eveletta 1881-1885 (married John T Petticord); Morris Hinsey 1854-1857; Ida Garrone 1854-1855; Florence Woods 1858-1937 (married Bryson SHEELY); Charles Franklin 1858-1929 (married Barbara Ellen Sheely then Louise E Taylor); Rosetta 1862-1864; Robert Morton 1865-1901 (married Lola Fox; Elmer Ellsworth 1867-1908 (married Emma M Berkley); William Grant 1868-1955 (married Rose E Harrington).
