Death of C. F. Perkins

The community was much startled yesterday noon, May 2nd, 1899, by the news of the death of C.F. Perkins, who passed away between eleven and twelve o'clock, although it was known that he was in dangerous condition. He had an attack of grip some time ago and had recovered sufficiently to be around, when he went out to his farm and the effort and exposure brought on a relapse which took the form of pneumonia. Although a strong man his vitality was not sufficient to overcome the terrible disease.

He was about 50 years old; came here from Vermont when a young man, about 25 years ago, and married Mary A. McGee, a daughter of the late M. M. McGee.

Two children were born, Matthew M. and Caroline. Some four years ago Mr. Perkins left the active work on the farm and moved to town where he built a handsome residence which was his home up to the time of his death.

He was a prosperous farmer, a good and influential citizen, and will be much missed in the community and among a large circle of friends.

He leaves a wife, son and daughter to mourn his loss. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence. Burial to be in the Winterset Cemetery.
