Jean Peak Hadsall, 93, was born on July 29, 1922 to Ralph and Georgia Fox Peak, in the farmhouse where she was raised and where she raised her family up until the death of her husband in 2007. She was the second of three children born five years apart, her older sister Marjorie (Dowe) Loomis, her younger brother, Dr. Frank (Mary Scrivner) Peak. Jean died on Feb. 12, 2016, at the Westview Care Center in Indianola, Iowa, where she had resided for the last 23 days of her life.

Growing up in rural St. Marys Jean showed her family’s prized beef from county to state fair, Omaha’s Ak-sar-ben and the Chicago International Livestock Exhibition. She met her husband Bob at the Iowa State Fair when he was home on leave from the Army Air Corps during World War II and they were married on Jan. 16, 1943.

Four children were born, Sandy (Hadsall) Shaw, Bobby (Mary), John (Judy) and Bruce.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband and siblings and is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends, young and old.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the St. Marys Volunteer Fire Department. Come help celebrate Jean’s life on Saturday morning, March 5, 2016, at the St. Marys Hall at 10 a.m. for coffee, soda and cookies.
