Betty Jean Day

Betty Jean Day, daughter of Lloyd Raymond Johnson and Blanche Olive Loy Johnson was born June 21, 1927 in Union County, Iowa and passed from this life Monday, September 7, 2020 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center at 93 years of age.

Betty received her education in Afton, Iowa where she graduated from Afton High School and received her Normal Training Certificate which allowed her to begin a teaching career.

She was united in marriage to George Torrey Day on August 17, 1946 in Troy, Kansas and three children, Dennis, Beverly and Scott blessed this union.

Betty worked for many years in the education field where she taught at various country schools, and later was a substitute teacher at a number of schools including St. Charles and I-35. She also worked as a library aide in the I-35 school system. She was a member of Model Chapter #174 O.E.S.; a member of the St. Charles Library Board, the Rolling Wheels Camping Club and various card clubs.

She enjoyed gardening, square dancing, camping and baking. She especially liked making wedding cakes and candy at Christmas time as well as her apple pies made from the apples in her back yard.

Those relatives who preceded Betty in death were her parents, Lloyd Raymond Johnson and Blanche Olive Johnson; husband, George Torrey Day; sister, Fern Goodridge; brothers-in-law, Robert Goodridge, Roger McKee and Lyndell Hainline.

Betty leaves to cherish her memory; son, Dennis (Christine) Day of Grinnell, IA; daughter, Beverly (Cesar) Favila of Garland, TX; and son, Scott (Karla) Day of St. Charles, IA, grandchildren, Brian (Aki) Day of Everett, WA, Sara (Jim) Day-Brewer of Salt Lake City, UT, Monica (Ruben) Cortez of Arlington, TX, Cesar (Cristina) Favila, II of Rockwall, TX, Jarrett Day of St. Charles, IA and Kale Day of St. Charles, IA; great-grandchildren, Emi, Sachi, Finn, Lucy, Ruben, Callie, Cesar III, Maximus and Belle. Also surviving are her sister, Donna McKee of Altoona, IA, sister-in-law, Avis Hainline of Creston, IA as well as nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.

Memorials may be directed to St Charles Parish Church in St. Charles
