Dexter, Iowa

The Sentinel referred briefly last week to the death of Thomas Colgin, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Colgin, of Des Moines, former residents of this vicinity and of Penn township. The funeral services were held at the Penn Center church, Monday, May 2 at 3:00 p.m. and interment was made in the Penn Center cemetery.

Thomas William Colgin was born in Kansas May 28, 1892, and died at the home of his parents in Des Moines Sunday, May 1, 1910, at 1:45 a.m., aged 17 years, 11 months and two days. He united with the Church of Christ in 1907, since when he has been an earnest worker for the Lord, and true to his faith. He had always been a loving child, free from bad habits and dissipation, and above all a patient sufferer through his long illness.

About three years ago he began to decline in health and has gradually failed since until death relieved his suffering.

About ten years ago he came here with his parents from Kansas, locating in Penn township and later moved on to a farm west of Dexter, when about three years ago the family moved to Des Moines.

His affliction was a complication of kidney trouble and rheumatism, which attacked him first while on the farm. At times he seemed to be better, but was unable to gain any permanent relief.

The funeral services were held on Monday at the residence in Des Moines, conducted by the Rev. Zook, pastor of the Brotherhood church. The pass bearers at the home were members of his Sunday school class.

The body was brought to Earlham Monday noon and taken to the cemetery at Penn Center for interment. Services were again held at the Penn Center M. E. church, conducted by Rev. Zook, the pall bearers being his old schoolmates of District No. 8 in Penn township, and were Thomas Boothroy, Ernest Cox, Lloyd Leeper, Ed Nolte, Roy Taylor and Bruce Moore.

Another life has closed; his days of suffering are ended and the tired body has been given back to earth.
