George H. Fastle was born in Germany, May 15th, 1826, and died at the home of his son H. V. Fastle in Madison county, Iowa, Jan. 25th, 1910, aged 83 years, 8 months and 10 days.

He came to America when 22 years of age and settled in New York state, where he resided for some years, then removed to Ill. While here he enlisted in Co. G. 156th Illinois Regiment. About the year 1866 he came to Iowa and resided near Fonda for several years, and more recently has made his home in Kansas and Nebraska until the past two years which have been spent with his son near Penn Ceter.

In 1867 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Hunt and to this union were born four children, Alice Druey of Windom, Minn., Robert, Geo. A. of Kasson, Minn., and Harry of Earlham, Iowa.

Mr. Fastle was for more than 40 years a member of the Adventist church and faithful to his vows.

He suffered a great deal during the early part of his sickness, but his last days were peaceful and he fell quietly into the sleep that knows no earthly awakening. The funeral services were held at Penn Center church, conducted by the pastor Rev. A. A. Thompson and the remains were laid to rest in the Earlham cemetery.
