West Des Moines formerly of Fort Mohave, AZ

Daniel Martin Brown, 78, of West Des Moines, formerly of Fort Mohave, AZ, died Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Arbor Springs due to complications of Alzheimer's Disease. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 21 at Iles Grandview Park Chapel.

Dan was born near Winterset, IA on July 28, 1938 to the late Leigh and Edith (Brandon) Brown and graduated from Patterson High School. Following graduation he attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. He worked as a Teamster for several bread companies in Des Moines and Los Angeles and also worked for the New York Life Insurance Company in LA.

Dan and Sona (Rutledge) were married October 8, 1960 in Bethany, MO. They made their home in Downey, CA for 35 years until their retirement to Fort Mohave, AZ. Dan enjoyed traveling through the Old West, handicapping horse races and socializing at casinos with his friends. He will be remembered as a kind, loving man with a great sense of humor.

Dan was very loved and will be greatly missed by those surviving him including his sons, Timothy Brown of Mitchellville and James (Shelly) Brown of Altoona; sister, Helen Hale of Huntington Beach, CA; two sisters-in-law, Melba and Twyla Brown; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sona in 2015; youngest son, Donald; brothers, Leigh Edward, Clarence, Homer, Donald and Richard Brown; and sisters, Lorraine Lear and Dolores Peterson.
