Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Asa B. and Mary M. Smith, was born in Madison county, Iowa, on November 18th, 1870. She was united in marriage to Elmer Banks of the same county on February 27th, 1895. They resided in Madison county until 1898 when they removed to Oklahoma where they took homesteads and remained until 1912. In that year they returned to Madison county, where they continued to reside until the date of her death on May 10th, 1926.

She united with the Christian church at the age of seventeen years, but in later years she attended the services of the Primitive Baptist church and she was a firm believer in the doctrines of this church.

In addition to her husband, she leaves to mourn her loss the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Laura A. Miller of Stuart, Iowa; Stephen E. Smith of Winterset; William T. Smith, Elijah S. Smith, R. A. Smith and Mrs. Nellie Weaver, all of Earlham; and John N. G. Smith and Walter A. Smith of Snyder, Oklahoma. She leaves other relatives and friends.

The high esteem in which she was held in her home community is shown by the many kindnesses bestowed upon her and her husband during her protracted illness.

After a short service at the home, her funeral service, conducted by the Reverend W. J. Woods, was held at the Primitive Baptist church north of Winterset and she was laid to rest in the cemetery at said church on May 11, 1926.
