Prominent Citizen of Truro, Former Supervisor, Was Ill Two Weeks
W. O. Creger, former Madison county supervisor and one of the most prominent citizens of Ohio township, for many years, died Wednesday morning at his home at Truro after an illness of about two weeks.
Mr. Creger was 74 years of age, and was a life-long resident of Ohio township. He was born Aug. 31, 1866, the son of Samuel and Rebecca Reed Creger. He was married on Dec. 17, 1890, to Miss Ida Worthing. They were the parents of two sons, one of whom died at the age of seven years.
Mr. Creger always took an active part in the affairs of his community and his church. He was one of the organizers of the Truro Savings bank, and was a stockholder and director of that institution. He served as township trustee, and from 1937 to 1940 was a member of the Madison county board of supervisors. He was active in the Truro Methodist church, and was affiliated with the Knights of Pythias lodge there.
He is survived by his wife; his son, Merrill Creger; and his sister Mrs. Bradie Phillips.
Funeral services will be held this Friday at 2 p. m. from the Methodist church at Truro.

W. O. Creger, 79, former Madison county supervisor and a lifetime resident there, died Wednesday at his home in Truro, Ia., after a short illness.
Mr. Creger whose father was a supervisor in Madison county 60 years ago when the courthouse was built at Winterset, served on the board from 1937 to 1940.
Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Friday in the Truro Methodist church, of which Mr. Creger was a lifelong member. Burial will be in Truro cemetery.
Pallbearers will be seven nephews, Donald Durham, Kenneth Brown, Oscar T. Olson, Glen Queen and Carl Black, Jr., all of Des Moines, Ted Queen of Newton, Ia., and John Queen of Oskaloosa, Ia.
Surviving, besides the widow, are one son, Merrill S. Creger; a sister, Mrs. Bert Philips, and a grandson, George Creger, all of Truro.

William Oscar Creger, son of Samuel M. and Rebecca J. Reed Creger, was born near Truro, Iowa, Aug. 31, 1866 and passed to the great beyond June 4, 1941, aged 74 years, 9 months and 4 days.
He was united in marriage to Ida P. Worthing, Dec. 17, 1890, and to this union two sons were born, Merrill Samuel and John Theodore who passed away April 28, 1912.
He spent his entire life in this vicinity, living on the farm that his father, Samuel M. Creger purchased from the government in 1854, until 1915 when he and his family moved to Truro.
Mr. Creger was converted and united with the Ohio Methodist church soon after his marriage, later transferring his membership to the Truro Methodist church after its organization in 1894.
He always took an active part in the affairs of the church and has been a trustee and steward of the church for the past 30 years. He was always loyal to his church.
He was active in public school affairs and of his community and held office of township trustee and clerk. He was elected on the board of supervisors of Madison county and served three years, 1937-40.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Ida, his son Merrill and wife Cleo, who has been a true daughter, and his grandson, George Oscar, who has been his great delight, and his only sister, Bradie Jane Phillips.
His brother, Theodore Creger and his sister, Amanda Queen preceded him in death several years ago. He also leaves three nieces, four nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
The funeral services were held in the Truro Methodist church on Friday afternoon, June 6 at 2 p. m. the Rev. W. W. Watson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Clarence Moore, pastor of the First Methodist church of Leon. Interment was made in the Young cemetery east of Truro.
