Marguerite Lubell Kalbach Lillie of Grayson, Ga., formerly of Dexter, died peacefully on March 3, 2015. A memorial service will be held at Penn Center Methodist Church, Earlham at a later date.

Marguerite was born on January 28, 1921. By the time she was a teenager, the Great Depression had engulfed her and her family. To help support the family, Marguerite and her sisters, began to dance, calling themselves The Kay Sisters. They performed at county fairs and local events all over the state of Iowa and traveling as far as Texas.

Marguerite was a 4-H leader for many years, a Sunday school teacher at Fairview Congregational Church, and a longtime member of the Early Chapel Church. She worked for many years at a Des Moines hospital. She also worked in Dexter at the Dexter Hospital, and for the veterinarian in Earlham. Upon retirement from their jobs, Marguerite and Eugene joined the Peace Corps. They were assigned to Malaysia for two years and so loved the country, the people and the work. They sponsored a foreign exchange student from Japan after their return.

Survivors include Loretta (Tom) Vail of Grayson, Ga., Ronald (DiAnne) Lillie of Grinnell, Kathryn Nelson of Lawrenceville, Ga., Lee (Kathie) Lillie of Portland, Ore., and Randy (Dee) Lillie of Earlham; 12 grandchildren, Tammy Brackett, Chris Lillie, Bryce Nelson, Chad Nelson, Adam Nelson, Michael Lillie, Jeremy Lillie, Eric Lillie, Kristen Hollander, Jeff Lillie, Justin Lillie and Jennifer Vail; 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Alzheimer’s Association.
