Terra Anna Hiatt, age 57 of Humeston, Iowa, daughter of John and Laura Elizabeth (Purdy) Thompson, was born February 2,1947 in Vinton, Iowa and died April 24, 2004 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Terry grew up in Vinton. She graduated from Vinton High School in 1965.

Terry attended the State College of Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa for two years. There she met Terry Wayne Hiatt, and they were married August 5, 1967 in Vinton. To this union three children were born: Michael John, Lisa Ann and Daniel Wayne.

Terry and her family lived in Baxter and Paullina, Iowa before moving to Humeston in August 1970.

Terry was a member of the Humeston Christian United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Thompson, her father-in-law Morris Hiatt, and 8- month old granddaughter Janessa Hiatt on June 5, 2000.

Terry is survived by her husband Terry Hiatt of Humeston; three children: Mike Hiatt and wife Sandra of Osceola, Iowa, Lisa Hiatt of Waukee, Iowa, Dan Hiatt of Saint Louis, Missouri; 5 grandchildren: Josh Mitchell, Sara Hiatt, Brittany Hiatt, Jon Mitchell, and Stephen Hiatt; mother Laura Thompson of Vinton; brother Dennis Thompson and wife Donna of Vinton and Don Thompson and wife Carolyn of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; mother-in-law Marcella Hiatt of Peru, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held a 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa with Pastor Lynn Zimmerman officiating.

Burial will be in Peru Cemetery, Peru, Iowa.

TERRY HIATT

Terry Anna Hiatt, the daughter of Laura E. Purdy Thompson and John Thompson, was born Feb. 2, 1947, in Vinton and died April 24, 2004 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. She was 57.

She grew up in Vinton. She loved roller skating, played in the band, and played piano and organ for church. She graduated from Vinton High School in 1965.

She attended Iowa State College in Cedar Falls for two years. While in college she met Terry Wayne Hiatt. They were married Aug. 5, 1967 in Vinton. They were the parents of three children, Michael John, Lisa Ann and Daniel Wayne.

The family lived in Baxter and Paullina, before moving to Humeston in 1970 for her husband Terry’s teaching job.

Mrs. Hiatt shared her love of skating with her family and the family roller skated nearly every Sunday at Chariton. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, needlework, camping, collecting glassware and cats. Because of multiple leg surgeries and being in a wheelchair, she looked forward to going out with her husband Wednesday evenings for dinner and shopping. Mrs. Hiatt was a member of the Humeston Christian United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Thompson, father-in-law Morris Hiatt, and 8-month-old granddaughter, Janessa Hiatt, who died June 5, 2000.

Survivors include her husband, Terry Hiatt, of Humeston, son, Mike Hiatt and his wife, Shanda, of Osceola, daughter, Lisa Hiatt of Waukee; son, Dan Hiatt of St. Louis, Mo; five grandchildren, Josh Mitchell, Sara Hiatt, Brittany Hiatt, Jon Mitchell and Steven Hiatt; mother, Laura Thompson of Vinton; brothers, Dennis Thompson and wife, Donna, of Vinton, Don Thompson and wife Carolyn, of Shawnee Mission, Kans.; mother-in-law, Marcella Hiatt of Peru; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Wednesday, April 28, at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon with Pastor Lynn Zimmerman officiating. Burial was in the Peru Cemetery with the following casket bearers, Charles Hiatt, Cory Hiatt, Curtis Hiatt, Larry Kelso, Dennis Morris and Scott Roberts.

Memorials may be given to the Humeston First Responders.
