Wm. H. Deardorff

William Henry Deardorff, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Deardorff, was born in Henry county, Iowa, December 20, 1843. At the age of five, he removed with his parents to Mahaska county and settled near Montezuma where he grew to manhood.

On August 13, 1862, he enlisted in the Company B, 40th Iowa Infantry, where he served over three years and fount in a number of engagements of the war. He was mustered out of service at Davenport, Iowa, August 16, 1865, and removed to Madison county, Iowa.

On October 3, 1873, he was united in marriage to Elma Simmons of Madison county.

He was converted to Jesus Christ in young manhood and joined the Methodist church, in whose communion he remained to the end of life.

He departed this life, August 28, 1920, aged 76 years, 8 months and 8 days.

Those who mourn their loss are, his wife, four daughters with their families, two sisters and many friends.

Peru

On Tuesday afternoon, occurred the funeral of Mr. Wm. Deardorff. A large concourse of people gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to one of Peru’s most respected citizens. The Masons and Wm. Deardorff Relief Corps attended in a body and after the exercises at the church the body was taken to the Ebenezer cemetery where the Masons took charge and gave their imposing burial ceremony. The family have the sincere sympathy of the whole community in their bereavement. The floral tributes were many and beautiful.
