Pitzer - ASHFORD HARVEY NELSON

Ashford Harvey Nelson was born in Anderson, Ind., Aug. 4, 1851 and departed this life Jan.. 3, 1917, aged 65 years, 4 months and 29 days.

He spent his boyhood days in his native state and at the age of 16, he came with his parents to Knox county, Illinois. On Jan. 17, 1875, he was united in marriage to Amanda Caroline Jackson of Warren county, Illinois. They moved to Stuart, Iowa, Jan. 20, 1876 and on Feb. 15, 1883, moved to their present home near Pitzer, living on the farm 34 years.

To this union were born ten children, two dying in infancy, and Bertha Leola Bruce, the eldest, departing this life April 24, 1913. Those remaining are his loving and faithful companion, seven children: Orville of Clearfield, Iowa; William of Clearfield, S.D.; Grover of Roswel, S. D.; Floyd and Earl of Dexter; Mabel Eyerly of Winterset and Lois Bond of Earlham; besides two sisters and one brother, 16 grandchildren and other friends and relatives.

He was a kind and loving husband and father, a patient sufferer, never complaining of his affliction and a true friend, admiring all the noble qualities of true manhood.

Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Saturday at the home, conducted by Rev. Hawthorne. Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery, the Masonic order, of which he was a member, paying tribute at the grave.
