FLORENCE WRIGHT

The body of Mrs. Chas. Wright, who died Sunday night at the M. E. hospital in Des Moines, where she passed through a very critical operation, was brought to Peru Wednesday afternoon.

The funeral services were held at the Christian church, conducted by Rev. W. W. Williams of St. Charles, a former pastor, assisted by Rev. O. L. Jones, the present M. E. pastor. The text used by Rev. Williams was “For me to live is Christ, to die is gain.” Interment was in the Ebeneezer cemetery, where many of her friends lie buried. The train came one and one half hours late and as Rev. Williams had to return on the 4 o'clock train, he was obliged to leave at the close of the sermon.

The members of the family who came from Des Moines were: C. W. Wright and sons, Guy and Lawrence and daughters, Mrs. Alvin Ogburn and family, Mrs. Mildred Dredge and husband, a brother, Frank Monroe from Kansas; a sister-in-law, Miss Lizzie Wright, from Flint, Mich.; Mrs. Arnold of Chariton and Dr. Painter of New Virginia.

There were many beautiful flowers from friends. Will Monroe and wife went to Des Moines Monday and stayed with the sorrowing ones and came with them to Peru on Wednesday. He is a brother of Mrs. C. W. Wright.

DEATH OF MRS. C. W. WRIGHT

Last week we spoke of Mrs. Flora Wright being operated on at the hospital in Des Moines. On Monday morning the startling news was received by her brother, Will Monroe, that she had died Sunday night. She was in the Methodist hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Monroe went to the city on the first train. The body was brought to Peru Wednesday noon, and the funeral was held from the Christian church, the sermon was given by Rev. W. W. Williams of St. Charles, a former pastor of the deceased, assisted by Rev. O. L. Jones pastor of Peru M. E. church.

Mrs. Wright was almost (if not quite) the first acquaintance the mail family made, when we came to Peru more than 17 years ago and we have known her well ever since. She was ever ready to help in sickness and trouble. She came to us as a ministering angel, when sickness and death came into our home. She went into other homes and ministered unto them.

A woman of strong convictions she believed in practical every day religion, and lived it. That she was loved by all was attested by the large number who came to pay their last respects to one who had lived among them for years. The tribute of flowers were many and beautiful.

She leaves to mourn her death her husband, Charles W. Wright, two daughters Mrs. Ethel Ogburn, and Mrs. Mildred Dredge, two sons, Guy and Lawrence, and two grand children all of Des Moines; three brothers, Ronnie Monroe and Frank Monroe of Fredrick, Kansas, and William P. Monroe of East Peru, besides other relatives and a host of friends. The internment was at beautiful Ebeneezer cemetery.
