Death of JOHN C. REED

The death of John C. Reed of Truro on last Saturday evening, May 30th, was a sad shock to his many friends throughout the county. He was stricken with heart failure Saturday evening after a day of active work in which he appeared to be in usual health.

Funeral services were held at Truro on Tuesday. The deceased was one of the strong, active men of Ohio township, a good citizen and a man who will be sorely missed in that community. He is survived by a wife, one son, Chas. Reed of Ohio township and one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Steer of Des Moines.

John Cassady Reed was born in Carroll county, Ohio, March 24, 1851, and died at his home in Truro, Iowa, May 30, 1914, at the age of 63 years, 2 months and 6 days.

When he was four years of age, his parents moved to Montezuma, Iowa, where they lived for a short time, moving to Madison county, in the spring of 1856, where he has since resided.

He was married to Laura Amelda Bean March 21, 1876. To this union were born two children which are Mrs. Addie M. Steer of Des Moines, Iowa, and Charles N. of Truro.

After their marriage they resided on a farm about one mile south of town. In 1890, they moved to Truro, and went into the hotel which they very successfully managed for sixteen years to the great delight of all who stopped with them, he and his wife proving themselves to be a splendid host and hostess. In September, 1907, they moved to the home they occupied until the time of his death.

He was well known and highly esteemed by all the people of Truro and vicinity and because of his friendly, congenial disposition, everybody in the community loved him. He always had a word for every child he met.

He often told his companion that he wanted to live right every day and he always stood for good moral principles.

He leaves to mourn their loss, a wife, two children, one grandchild, John E. Reed, two brothers and a large host of relatives and friends. The entire community extend their sympathy to the bereaved ones.

The funeral services were held from the M. E. church Tuesday at 2:30, Rev. C. K. Corkill officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in the Young cemetery eleven miles east of town.
