A. L. Cook, who was holding down a claim in Western Nebraska met with a fatal accident last Saturday at 4 a.m. He had driven from his claim to the town of Ogallala on Friday and was feeding his horses to get an early start home when he fell from the haymow dislocating his back. His family was notified here and his wife and son, Ralph, left Saturday afternoon, arriving at Ogallala Sunday at 9 a.m. On Monday they took him to the St. Josephs hospital at Omaha and he was operated on Tuesday and died from the effects of the operation Wednesday at 11 a.m. Mrs. Cook and son will arrive here this evening with the remains and the funeral will occur tomorrow under the auspices of the I.O.O.F. and G.A.R. societies. The hour of the funeral has not been announced.

The funeral of Arthur L. Cook, who died from the effects of a fall in Nebraska last week, was held in this city last Friday afternoon. The services were held in the Presbyterian church conducted by the deceased’s old pastor, Dr. Ely, of Des Moines, formerly pastor of the church here.
The Odd Fellows Lodge and Pitzer Post of the G.A.R., of which the deceased was a member, attended in a body as also did the Womans’ Relief Corps of which Mrs. Cook is an active member. Company G. I. N. G., of which the oldest son is a member, also marched in the procession.
Mr. Cook was a man well known in this community and among the most highly respected of our citizens. The bereaved family have the sympathy of all.

Falls From Hay Mow and Sustains Fatal Injuries. Body Will Arrive Tonight.
A. L. Cook, a resident of Winterset for more than thirty years and a veteran of the civil war, met death by accident, falling through a chute in a hay mow near Okallaga, Keith county, Nebr., where he was homesteading a claim. The accident occurred early last Saturday, morning. He was taken to the St. Joseph hospital in Omaha, where he received the best medical treatment available but he sustained internal injuries that were beyond the reach of medical skill and died yesterday forenoon.
Mrs. Cook and Ralph went Saturday upon receiving the telegram. They will arrive on the evening train with the body and the funeral will probably be held tomorrow under the auspices of the I. O. O. F. and G. A . R. orders with which the deceased was affiliated.
Mr. Cook, served in the civil war with the 59th Illinois regiment. He came to Winterset in 1876. He was a man of sterling character and was highly respected in this community.
